Tiki Taka Vs Avengers – Underdogs Pull Surprise Win to Go 2nd
THE LOCAL DERBY MATCH – A GAME OF GRIT, GLORY AND PERSEVERANCE…
The build up to this highly anticipated game had reached a fever pitch. It was a local derby game between two rivals – Tiki Taka FC and Avengers FC and a lot was at stake. A loss to Tiki Taka would have resulted in elimination, while Avengers were riding on the confidence of the dramatic comeback against Cullen FC during Match Day 2.
The game started with a lot of gusto between both teams as they battled on all sides of the pitch to maintain a grip over the game. Abu Dembo Konnateh opened the scoring within the first 18 minutes of play, by catching the goal keeper off-guard. About 2 minutes later, Reuben Ojeyinka was brought down by a defender in the 18-yard box and was quick to take on responsibility for the penalty. Unlike the previous match when his attempt was off-target, he made no mistake by duly dispatching the ball to the far-left side of the keeper.
With the game tied through half-time, both teams kept pressing on to score a goal. In the final quarter of the game, Tiki Taka’s pressing game paid off as one of Avengers’ defenders attempt to dribble his way out of defense resulted in losing the ball. In an effort to back-track and recover, the marauding Tiki Taka attacker was fouled in the 18-yard box and a penalty was duly awarded. Sam Ibrahim stepped up and calmly slotted the ball to the right side of the keeper. The Avengers were unable to mount a comeback and Tiki Taka held on to seal the win – pushing them up to 2nd in the League Table.
Considering the results of the other game between Clay FC & Cullen FC, Avengers FC have no choice but to win their last game, as a loss will spell the end of the Tournament campaign for the team.
