2019 Fall Season Recreational Soccer League heats up
Since the 2019 recreational soccer league kicked off in June, it has definitely lived up to the hype. Indications of this was obvious from the number of pre-season friendlies among the competing teams, tactical focused play and drills incorporated into team practices, restructured team rosters and player sign-ups/transfers prior to registration closure date.
So far, 7 fixtures have been played with a total of 18 goals scored among all teams (an average of 2.57 goals per game). With the introduction of individual awards, the race for the golden boot is also on, with Shola Aroniyo (Clay FC) currently in the lead with 3 goals in 3 games.
DC Eagles currently lead the table with a 3-game winning streak, followed by Clay FC in 2nd place. The defending champions, MFC, currently lie in 3rd place with a game in hand. Level on points with MFC is LWC FC with 4 games played. Invincible Eagles, who are currently at the bottom of the table will be looking to bounce back as they also have a game in hand. Results from the next two fixtures could completely transform the table, due to teams with catch-up games to be played.
(NOTE: The 3rd game between MFC and Invincible Eagles was postponed to 12th October).
So far, the games have featured remarkable comebacks, outright wins and last-gasp goals. Based on how competitive the teams are, there will no doubt be several twists and turns throughout the season as the teams battle for the qualifying spots to earn a ticket to the finals.
