Invincible Eagles FC go top
The Invincible Eagles continued their rich vein of form during the weekend by earning a convincing 3-0 win against DC Eagles at Stafford Texas to go top of the league. This has been a dramatic turnaround from their stuttering start to the season against Clay FC, when they gave up a two-goal lead to end the match as a draw. The 2nd game against LWC FC also ended as a 0-1 loss, and things were not looking good.
However, the team has made a dramatic turnaround with three successive wins on the trot. The first was a home win (1-0) over DC Eagles, followed by a convincing 6-3 drubbing of MFC at New Territory. With the third 3-0 win over DC Eagles at Stafford Tx and the next 4 games to be played at home, Invincible Eagles have certainly made a strong statement to all other competing teams and are currently being looked at as favorites to win the title.
The team’s current performance is by no means a coincidence. Coming from last season’s disappointing performance, the Team Leader (Chijioke “CJ” Iwu) ensured all key players were properly registered and fully outfitted with team jerseys and assigned numbers during the off-season break. With core members of the team such as Emmanuel “Mannie” James, Chris Ojo, Chima “Okocha” Ofoefule, Emmanuel Botman, Nimi Kemuel, Nobert Njei and their summer signing sensation – Cyrus Harmon, putting in their shifts in every game, Invincible Eagles have become a force to be reckoned with. The breakout player of the season to date has been Cyrus Harmon, who has notched 8 goals in 3 games (Average of 2.67 goals per game) and definitely a strong contender for the highest goal scorer award.
Invincible Eagles and MFC have a catch-up game scheduled on 12th October, and that should be an interesting one to watch. In the meantime, as the twists and turns continue through the season, will Invincible Eagles be able to stay focused and maintain the momentum?
